Create A Hyper-Profitable Affiliate Business From Scratch

Think of it this way – if you were about to open a restaurant, wouldn’t you do some research before quitting your day job and investing hundreds of thousands of dollars into it? Of course you would! You would research the best location, the best type of food to serve, how much you’ll have to pay employees, where you’ll source ingredients from, what type of tables and furniture to use, the best ovens and equipment for the kitchen, and all sorts of stuff. If you just “wing it” and open a restaurant without doing any research first, you’ll most likely fail. While affiliate marketing can be started part-time and without much capital, the same holds true. If you don’t research and plan, you will fail.
Ah, my favourite section. SO, by now, you guys should know that I hate crappy advice. Wellll, I feel like the Internet really let me down with affiliate marketing, because there’s so many small considerations and details that people rarely mention in the beginner guides. SO, here are some sad truths to be wary of (that I had to learn the hard way):
Well, in my personal experience, affiliate marketing makes up the largest chunk of my blog income. Since getting started back in October, I’ve made a few thousand dollars from affiliate marketing (including $1500 in the first 30 days!). The road to get there wasn’t easy though… affiliate marketing isn’t just about dropping links and hoping people will buy things. There is, in fact, a lot more strategic thinking involved, which brings us to the next major question:

As this article aims to cover affiliate marketing for beginners, here’s a little example for you. So, let’s assume John is an affiliate. He has a website which is all about skateboarding. On it, he has a blog where he shares videos of his latest stunts, pictures of the parks he’s visited, and in-depth reviews of the best and worst skateboards he’s ever used.

Content is King – The more successful websites had content that was around 1,000 words per post. Google identifies this as better content and it’ll help your search rankings. It can’t just be gibberish though, it helps if you break up the content into 6-8 different sections so it’s easy for the user to navigate while still being lengthy. I used to think 300 words was good and 500 was above and beyond. I’ll likely spend even more time on articles and aim for around 1,000 words per article like my most popular article “Robinhood App Review” at 1,500 words.
Human Proof Designs (HPD) is one of the most respectable names in the Affiliate Marketing world. They mainly have 2 solutions for the customers. One is that they sell “Ready Made” Amazon.com based Affiliate websites as well as provide training to build your own Amazon.com based Affiliate websites. Joining their monthly affiliate marketing training course opens up the world to professional affiliate marketers who are always ready to help you out to resolve your queries.
Dylan, thank you for your comment and the question. To be honest, this is the first time that I hear about “Savage Affiliates” (so, I’m afraid, I would be the wrong person to give you an opinion on it). There are many online training courses on affiliate marketing out there (including this video course put together by yours truly) but I have not taken any of them. So, I wouldn’t be able to be of much help here.
The Sandals affiliate program pays you a commission for referring users to book either a stay in one of the Sandals Resorts, or booking an activity. While 4% might seem like a small percentage, these luxury resorts have daily rates that range from $150 to over $2,000 per person -- which means, if a couple were to book a romantic week in a Sandals Resort at $500 per person per night, you would earn a commission of $280!
The 7 BEST Affiliate Marketing Programs For Beginners 2020

If a company changes the terms of its affiliate program, your revenues could be directly affected. Becoming an affiliate for the wrong businesses can also create problems. You won't earn money if your blog or website audience doesn't feel compelled to buy their products or services. Given the growth of affiliate marketing, you’ll also have to contend with fierce competition from other marketers promoting the same products.
When deciding what affiliate program to use I did a lot of research into different ones that worked with Wordpress. This came out top for me, it has a lot more features than similar products and I like that it tells your affiliate who the sale is from and also allows you to track leads (which in my case is the free version of my site) Support has been good, a special mention to Adam Jacobs who has been there to help me set everything up and answer any questions as ive gone along.

Hey Andrew! This is a great question and will depend on your niche. I’d first join a few affiliate networks like Shareasale and Impact. Then you can start seeing which brands are in there and if there are enough of them to start promoting. If not, then you should look into the companies individually by just searching: “Company” + affiliate program.

A lot of people don’t realize this, but you can’t just become an affiliate – it’s a process that requires an application. Even once you’re part of an affiliate network, you’ll still need to apply for individual brands within those networks. There are times when you’ll be declined… usually there’s a reason why (lol like that time I applied to hundreds of clothing retailers in anticipation for all the packing lists that I still have not written). Other times, you’ll feel like a good fit and they’ll reject you anyway. That’s the way this cookie crumbles, so remember to put a little effort into your applications and really pick companies that fit your blog.

Some websites allow you to engage in pay-per-click affiliate marketing without running your own website or blog. Direct links through outside merchant websites allow you to create and make money off of ads without having to post them to your own website. For instance, you might make an ad for a dating website and advertise on Facebook; when someone clicks on your ad, they go straight to the dating site, instead of a website or landing page you have created.[6] Some affiliate networks that specialize in direct linking include Associate Programs, Affiliates Directory, E-commerce Guide, and Link Share.[7]
If you're a professional marketer working for a few different clients, Landingi's wide range of professional templates is hard to beat. There are dozens of templates that target different industries, like wedding photography or construction work, or offer different products, like a free eBook download or a webinar signup. Most importantly, these templates aren't all just slightly re-skinned versions of the same basic idea. Each of your clients will have a unique landing page.

I was able to completely customize the software to appear where I wanted it in the website and incorporate an approval process for applicants. There is an option for pretty much everything - which is great. The only drawback is that because of the many options and settings, it was sometimes confusing and I needed assistance setting up. Luckily, Arlen and the rest of the support team are quick to respond and extremely helpful. Arlen went above and beyond to help me integrate the software into our website and was very patient to explain terms and features I didn't quite understand yet. I would definitely recommend OSI Affiliates! Thank you guys!!!
18. ReferralCandyReferralCandy is an eCommerce store plugin explicitly designed for referral program management. It lets you leverage word-of-mouth marketing by turning customers into advocates and rewarding them for telling their friends about your products. Marketed to small and large companies alike, this platform lets entrepreneurs provide incentives for referrals in various forms, such as cash, store credit, discounts, or free products. It even comes with analytics tools and one-click integrations, much like the other full-fledged affiliate marketing products on this list.Lowest Price: ReferralCandy subscriptions start at $49/month. This is inclusive of dashboard and data reports as well as automatic fraud protection. However, it is exclusive of commission. To get a better idea of their rates, the vendor has a calculator on their website where you can get an estimate of the extra charge based on your sales.
A product box comes at the end of the template, which enables you to present a clear recommendation. This is the key element of the template. After introducing all the products, you need to highlight the “winner” that has it all. Otherwise, readers might get overwhelmed after reading all the detailed information, still not knowing which one to pick.
Right now, I’m in around 200 affiliate programs and they mostly all have separate dashboards unless the program is within a network like Impact or Shareasale. Definitely use the ThirstyAffiliates plugin for WordPress. With that plugin, you can add all of your affiliate links in one place and then add them to posts easily in your WordPress post editor.
HI Dawn. Really useful article. Affiliate marketing is something I’ve tried on and off for years but as soon as it comes to keyword research, i block. i’m blind so understanding all the information that keywords research gives you is just soooo. difficult. and i don’t know how to choose longtail keywords. As a result I’ve always stuck to direct selling but I love to write and feel sure that if i got my head around keyword research and knowing how to pick words I could make a go of this. Any advice?
Some programs may ask more requirements than others to accept you as its affiliate. But do not be discouraged, there are affiliate programs for everybody. Some of the requirements are having a Blog, Website or Social Media account with lots of followers. You don’t have any of these options. No worries! I can help you with that. Know the legal requirements. Most visitors will probably understand that advertisements lead to your personal compensation, but if you write a review or use an in-text link as a recommendation, you must explicitly state that each purchase using that link can generate revenue for you. This isn't just good business: it's also required by law. If you don't disclose affiliate or revenue-generating links, you could face legal and financial penalties.
Locate online communities relevant to the affiliate you are promoting. This might include forums, discussion boards, chat rooms, and blogs. Post often on the forum, and build a good reputation among the community members. Once people trust your judgment, you can start to include affiliate links in your posts. Do not simply spam the forums with product codes. You should sprinkle the affiliate links within genuinely useful content.
Analytics can also help you adjust your affiliate marketing strategy. If your audience is engaging with one post more than another for the same product, this is insight into what content your audience prefers. If using one hashtag decreases your reach, you may choose to swap it out for another to maximize your audience and grow your per-click earnings.

How established is your site/blog/social media following?  Do you already have an audience of 1 million or are you just getting started?  Early on in your affiliate marketing journey you will probably want to have multiple options to make sure you can cover a broad field. You might want to become an Amazon Associate as well as joining one of the networks so you will have a product link to drop into any posts you do.  An easy place to start is to promote the services you are using if you are enjoying their product - web hosting or email management systems like Aweber.
