Basically, almost all the domain names have been registered at some point in the past, so the chances are that the domain name you’re trying to register has already been used by somebody else in the past. This sometimes means that the past owner might have posted illegal things, or adult stuff, scams, spammed, etc…thus Google and other search engines blocked it from ever appearing in the search engines ever again.
As we’ve been saying, shorter is better. If you can’t get your domain name down to one memorable word (almost impossible to come by these days), then consider adding one or maximum two more words. Combinations of two words work great for the memorable names like LifeHacker.com or GeekSquad.com. Also, don’t use an acronym. People will never remember the letters unless it’s a highly catchy name.
Yes this will increase the costs, and you will probably have to pay $50 – $60 a year in domain renewal fees, but then again, if you have a great business and you don’t want anyone else to mess with it, by registering a domain name similar to your but on a different TLD, then you should invest in buying more domain extensions and just redirect all of them to your main website.

While the the best of them offer surprising amounts of flexibility, they also impose stringent enough restrictions to page design that you shouldn't be able to create a really bad looking site using one of these services. Typically you can get a Mysite.servicename.com style-url with no commerce abilities for free from one of these services; you have to pay extra for a better URL and the ability to sell. One issue to consider is that if you eventually outgrow one of these services, it can be hard to export your site to a full scale advanced web hosting like Dreamhost or Hostgator. If you know that's where you are eventually going, it may be better to skip the sitebuilder step.
Constant Contact gets really detailed here and will have different suggestions for you depending on the specific niche your site is in. For example, when putting in “food” as the topic of the site, Constant Contact will want you to clarify whether the site has to do with food tours, food banks, food stand, food truck, etc. Constant Contact will use that info to suggest a website design that’s truly optimized for what you need.
WordPress is not an all-in-one package. It’s a Content Management System (CMS). A CMS allows you to create and organize digital content. Other elements like hosting and domain registration are best done separately. It’s up to you to bring these together in service of a WordPress site. This isn’t nearly as complicated as you might think, but it’s not the easiest way to make a website. We wouldn’t recommend it to people uncomfortable with technology.

When building your site, you’ll want to organize your files into folders according to the structure you want your site to appear in. Jimdo and Simvoly now offer similar if somewhat less ambitious tools. If the owner has agreed to sell the domain, try to get the agreement in writing if possible. Or better, draft and sign a purchase agreement with the buyer.
